FAQs

Which side should replenishment of a flow rack begin from? Will replenishment affect picking operations?

Replenishment should be done from the high end of the shelving (inbound end), while picking should be done from the low end (outbound end). The two operations should be separated and not interfere with each other. If the shelving is double-sided (with picking ends on both sides), a replenishment aisle should be set up in the middle. When replenishing, goods should be added to the shelves on both sides through the aisle without affecting the picking operations on both sides. This is suitable for high-frequency replenishment scenarios.

What is the maximum shelf length for flow racks? Will excessive length affect their usability?

The maximum length of a standard shelf (flow ramp) is 3m. If a longer shelf (3-4m) is required, a support point must be added in the middle. Excessive length will cause the flow ramp to bend and deform, making it difficult for goods to slide smoothly, and may even cause jamming or tilting. Therefore, it is recommended that the length of a single flow ramp not exceed 3m. Extra-long goods can be arranged in a double-row side-by-side layout.

Are flow racks suitable for "goods-to-person" picking models? How can they be integrated with picking equipment?

It is ideally suited for use in the "goods-to-person" picking model and is one of the core pieces of equipment. It can be used in conjunction with conveyor belts and AGVs: goods slide to the picking end via a flow rail, and picking personnel complete the picking at fixed workstations. Empty boxes are returned to the replenishment end via a return flow rail. It can also be linked with an electronic tag system to display the quantity and location of goods to be picked, thereby improving picking efficiency.

Can the sliding speed of goods on a flow rack be adjusted? How can we prevent goods from sliding down too quickly?

It can be adjusted in two ways: ① Adjust the tilt angle of the shelf (fine-tuning within the range of 3-5°). The smaller the angle, the slower the speed. At the same time, a stop device must be installed at the end of the shelf to prevent goods from falling due to impact.

What materials are available for the flow rails of gravity flow racks? What environments are they suitable for?

There are three main materials for gravity flow strips: ① Plastic gravity flow strips (ABS/PP): suitable for light goods (≤200kg/layer) and non-corrosive environments, such as electronic components and small e-commerce items; ② Steel gravity flow strips: suitable for medium-sized goods (200-1000kg/layer) and scenarios with high wear resistance requirements, such as automotive parts and hardware tools; ③ Stainless steel gravity flow strips: suitable for humid and corrosive environments (such as cold storage and chemical warehouses), with strong rust resistance, but slightly higher cost.
