What is the maximum number of pallets that a single aisle of a gravity flow rack can store?
Pallet capacity per aisle = rack depth ÷ pallet depth (including clearance). The standard pallet depth is 1.2m (including 100mm clearance). A typical aisle depth is 6-8m, storing 5-6 pallets. If products use a uniform first-in, first-out (FIFO) storage method, the aisle depth can be increased. For last-in, first-out (LIFO) storage, the depth should be designed based on forklift load capacity, generally not exceeding 5 pallets. To increase storage capacity, multiple aisles can be designed side-by-side, but aisle spacing (approximately 800mm) must be reserved to avoid mutual interference.
Are gravity flow racks suitable for storing goods with short shelf lives? Why?
Ideally suited. Gravity flow racks enforce "first-in, first-out" through inclined tracks. When goods are put into the warehouse, they are automatically slid to the lower exit. Goods that entered first are retrieved first, effectively preventing goods from expiring due to long-term stockpiling. They are especially suitable for short-shelf-life goods such as milk, bread, and medicine.
Are the rollers in gravity flow racks prone to damage? Are the rollers easy to replace?
The rollers are made of high-strength polyurethane or steel, and are not easily damaged under normal use, with a service life of 5-8 years. Replacing the rollers is convenient; there is no need to disassemble the main shelf body. Simply loosen the clips at both ends of the damaged roller, remove the old roller, insert the new roller, and secure the clips. A single person can complete the replacement.
Do gravity flow racks require a power source? Are they noisy when running?
No power is required; the goods move entirely by their own weight, making it a non-powered shelving system with zero energy consumption. It operates with minimal noise, consisting only of a slight friction sound (≤60dB) as the goods slide against the rollers, making it suitable for noise-sensitive environments such as pharmaceutical warehouses and temporary storage areas next to food processing plant workshops.
What should be the tilt angle of a gravity flow rack? What are the effects of an angle that is too large or too small?
The standard tilt angle is 3-5°, adjusted according to the weight of the goods and the pallet type: 3-4° for light goods (≤500kg/pallet) and 4-5° for heavy goods (500-1000kg/pallet). An excessively large angle will cause the goods to slide too fast, potentially colliding with the end stop device; an excessively small angle will prevent the goods from sliding under their own weight, requiring manual assistance and affecting operational efficiency.
